LES BALKANNES 2022 – OPEN CALL

Association Contempl’Art is actively looking for photographers, performance artists and academics for the second edition of LES BALKANNES exhibition in Paris !

About the project

Les Balkannes promotes artistic expression in the Balkans through fresh perspectives about contemporary topics. Carried out by a team of Cultural studies graduates from Paris, Les Balkannes mainly collaborates with photographers besides including performers and academics in the program.

We favor alternative cultural locations and innovative galleries of the French capital for our programming.

Subject : "Youth in Cities"

We are looking for 1 picture that represents, for you, the youth in a city in the Balkans.

Depicting urban life aspects with a focus on young people and questioning social interactions within cities will be 2022’s edition focus for the photo exhibition.

Please note that we do not accept applications with more than one picture for the exhibition.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

Selection and prizes

- TEXT : Originality, relevance to the theme and quality of the descriptive text are the main criteria of evaluation for the photographs. Dealing with underground cultures, conflicts within public spaces, technologies or multicultural topics may add value to the application.

- JURY : An independant artistic committee made up of art or Balkans specialists and professional photographers will deliberate shortly after the application deadline is reached. The jury will select the eleven pictures to exhibit - one per country – and the competition winners.

- PRIZES : The first prize winner will receive round-trip plane tickets to Paris and accommodation for a few days during the exhibition. The second prize will receive round-trip plane tickets to Paris.

- WINNERS : Selected photographs will be exhibited for the duration of the project in Paris with a possible extension if other opportunities present in France or internationally.

Requirements

The call for application is open to any resident born and/or living in the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.

All photographers are encouraged to apply. No previous or significant experience is required to apply. There is no age limit and participation is free of charge.

How to apply

Artworks must be sent in digital format to the following email address : assoexpo@hotmail.com

Contempl'Art covers the costs of printing and lamination of the photographs. The printed work then belongs to the artist.

1. The image is to be sent in high resolution (.TIF format exclusively) and named as follows: «Country_Name_Surname_Title ».

2. A short but detailed explanatory text about your photograph (around 400 words, in English) is expected as well. This document is crucial to evaluate the quality and originality of your work.

3. Applicants need to return the Terms and Conditions document signed and dated, to upload via this link https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/66633976/les-balkannes-terms-and-conditions or download the PDF bellow.

4. If participants are willing to appear on our social media, they are welcome to submit a detailed resume and more pictures of their artworks.

PERFORMERS AND ACADEMICS

Performers (singers, art performers, dancer, musician) and academics are welcome to apply with an original project and a resume to the following email address : assoexpo@hotmail.com. Selected applicants will be granted round-trip plane tickets and accommodation in Paris.
